New York Cityâs Democrat Mayor Eric Adams dropped a full catalogue of Martin Luther King Jr. Day events to hotfoot it to D.C. after a last minute invite to Donald Trumpâs inauguration, according to reports. A City Hall spokesperson told the New York Daily News that the incoming administration didnât contact Adams until around 2 a.m. Monday, but he hit the road before dawn as soon as he got word. âAs the mayor has repeatedly said, America has chosen a new national leader and we must work together to build a safer, stronger, and more affordable in New York City,â Adams spokeswoman Kayla Mamelak said in a statement, confirming that he has had to skip MLK Day celebrations in Brooklyn and Manhattan to be at the Capitol on time. Trump has previously said he would consider a pardon for Adams after he was indicted in September for allegedly taking bribes and illegal campaign contributions from Turkish government operatives.
