If you’re wondering whether to see or skip Woody Allen’s latest, Blue Jasmine, the thumbs are pointing up: New York Times critic Manohla Dargis says the movie is Allen’s “most sustained, satisfying and resonant film since Match Point.” Cate Blanchett has received all-around raves for her performance as a broken, pill-popping wife of a disgraced investment banker as she migrates from Park Avenue to her sister’s ordinary home in San Francisco. Dargis says that Blanchett “maintains a vise grip on the character’s humanity” despite her insanity and unlikability. Blue Jasmine has a 78 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
