Obama to Call for Unity

State of the Union

While focusing on job growth, reducing deficit.

Spoiler alert! In a videotaped message sent to Democratic organizers, President Obama previewed the central themes of Tuesday’s State of the Union—which include greater civility and political unity, job creation, and “responsible” deficit reduction. The address comes amid conflict over the federal budget and boosting economic growth. "These are big challenges that are in front of us, but we're up to it, as long as we come together as a people—Republicans, Democrats, independents," Obama said on the tape, emailed to volunteers for Organizing for America, "as long as we focus on what binds us together as a people, as long as we're willing to find common ground even as we're having some very vigorous debates."
