President Obama goes to Ground Zero on Thursday, bringing closure to a week that began with his announcement that Osama bin Laden had been killed. It’s the first time the president has visited the site since taking office. Obama will lay a wreath at the memorial of the September 11 terrorist attacks and meet privately with family members of the victims. He is also expected to visit a New York City fire station and police station. He had invited former president George W. Bush to attend the ceremony, but Bush declined, saying he preferred to stick to his policy of staying out of the spotlight since leaving office. On Friday, Obama will visit Fort Campbell in Kentucky to honor the team that flew the Navy SEALs to bin Laden’s hideout.
