President Obama will announce his nomination for the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman on Tuesday. Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford Jr. is the current commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps and could replace Gen. Martin Dempsey after he steps down this fall. Dunford commanded U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan last year, and a regiment during the Iraq war.
