Marvel initially teased the news about Avengers: Doomsday back in July at the San Francisco Comic Con.
During the event, the studio revealed that Downey Jr. (Iron Man) would be returning to the MCU—but this time, he’ll play the villainous Doctor Doom. The announcement came after a group of men dressed as Doom walked onto the stage. One of the figures removed their mask, revealing themselves to be Downey Jr.
“New mask, same task,” Downey Jr. quipped, adding, “Boy, I tell you, I like playing complicated characters.”
Along with Downey Jr., the Russo Brothers, who directed the last two Avengers films, are returning to helm Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters worldwide on May 1, 2026.
