A German court has found John Demjanjuk, a 91-year-old man who was extradited from Ohio in 2009, guilty on thousands of counts as acting as accessory to murder for his work during World War II as a Nazi death-camp guard. Demjanjuk was not accused of a specific crime; rather, prosecutors alleged he was an accessory to the estimated 28,060 deaths that occurred at the Sobibor concentration camp while he worked there. Demjanjuk began WWII as a Soviet soldier but agreed to serve in the German SS after his capture. He went to Ohio after the war and was employed as an auto worker. The court could sentence him to up to five years in prison.
