The Tri Delta sorority chapter at Oklahoma University has expelled a member who filmed and posted a racist video of another student in blackface, reportedly using a racial slur. “The behavior documented in the video is abhorrent and is in no way consistent with Tri Delta’s ideals. To those students directly impacted by this senseless act of racism, we are deeply sorry, and we know that is not enough,” the chapter president said in a statement. OU also condemned the video, which was posted to Snapchat earlier in the week, but did not say what action it would take beyond that. “While students have the freedom of expression, the negative impact of such conduct cannot be underestimated. The students have offered to apologize in order to reflect their regret,” the school said in a statement. The Black Students Association, meanwhile, is demanding the university amend its code of conduct to include a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech. They say the school has not adequately addressed racism since a 2015 incident in which fraternity brothers were filmed singing a chant about lynching.
