Archaeologists believe they have found the oldest beer factory in Egypt, used to produce suds for sacrificial rites. The brewery, which is some 5,000 years old, was unearthed in the ancient burial ground in Abydos, experts from an American-Egyptian team announced. It includes more than 300 pottery basins used to heat up grains and water at the necropolis and make 22,000 liters of beer at a time.
