One Killed by Falling Chunk of El Capitan at Yosemite Park

One person was killed and another injured Wednesday when a huge chunk of rock “the size of an apartment building” came crashing down from the popular El Capitan rock formation in Yosemite National Park in California. At least 30 climbers were on the wall at the time, Park Ranger Scott Gediman told the Associated Press. “It was witnessed by a lot of people,” he said. The identities of the victims have not yet been released, and it wasn’t immediately clear if they were climbers or tourists. El Capitan, one of the world’s largest granite formations, with a height of about 4,000 feet, attracts climbers from all over the world.
