Glenn Weiss, director of this past year’s Academy Awards, won the Emmy Award for directing a variety special Monday night. And he used his acceptance speech to propose to his girlfriend from the stage. “You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend?” he asked her. “Because I want to call you my wife.” When she arrived at the stage, Weiss got down on one knee and gave her the engagement ring that belonged to his mother, who recently passed away. “I want to put this ring that my mom wore on your finger in front of all these people and in front of my mom and your parents watching from above. Will you marry me?” he asked. She said yes.
