Ousted De Blasio Aide Was Previously Fired Over Sexual Harassment Allegations: Report

Mayor Bill de Blasio’s former chief of staff, who was forced to resign last year amid sexual harassment allegations, had been fired from his previous job for similar reasons, The New York Times reports. Kevin O’Brien was fired from a senior staff position for Gov. Steve Bullock of Montana after a woman at the Democratic Governors Association in Washington had accused him of sexual harassment, and a follow-up investigation backed her claims, according to the Times. Bullock served a one-year term as chairman of the association in 2015, and reportedly sent O’Brien to Washington to represent him at the organization. De Blasio’s press secretary, Eric F. Phillips, said Monday that the mayor was unaware of O’Brien’s dismissal from the association. “He was made aware of the prior situation for the first time today, as a result of your reporting,” Phillips said of the Times’  coverage, adding that the Department of Investigation “received confirmation of title and work dates and no adverse information” during a standard background check prior to his employment at the mayor's office.
