Cruel world! Pet-insurance fraud is sweeping the United Kingdom, according to a new report from the Association of British Insurers. Pet owners are injuring or even killing their own animals just to claim a payout, according to insurers. Figures show there was more than $30 million worth of fraud detected last year, up from about $670,000 in 2009. One fraud investigator told the Daily Mail that suspected or proven fraudulent claims increased 440 percent between 2008 and 2010. Veterinarians are being called upon to help prevent such fraud from being committed.
