Sci-fi film Pacific Rim Uprising dethroned Black Panther as the top movie in North American theaters this weekend, bringing in an estimated $28 million domestically. Starring Charlie Day, Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, and John Boyega, the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 Pacific Rim had met with mixed reviews ahead of its release. After five weekends as the box-office No. 1, Black Panther slid to second place with an estimated $17 million. The film made up for its new ranking, however, overtaking The Avengers to become Marvel’s highest-grossing superhero film of all time. The movie had a total domestic haul of $630.9 million after its sixth weekend, giving it the fourth-biggest six-weekend gross. Lionsgate’s faith-based I Can Only Imagine claimed third place in theaters, with $13.9 million in its second weekend.
