President Trump told Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that he will move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, CNN reported Tuesday. According to Palestinian officials, Abbas warned Trump against the move during their phone call. Previous presidents have made similar promises, but delayed the move indefinitely because of the potential conflict such a move could spark in the Middle East. Washington’s allies have also pushed back against the plan—which would recognize the disputed city of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital—expressing concerns that it would endanger the safety of U.S. military and diplomatic personnel abroad.
