Charleston’s Post and Courier newspaper ran an ill-timed ad for a gun range above Thursday’s front page, which was dedicated to the terrorist attack that killed nine people in a church Wednesday night. The paper’s advertising department manager told Jim Romenesko, “It was just unfortunate timing. The ad had already been scheduled.” The newspaper later issued an official statement, saying, “The front-page sticky note that was attacked to some home delivery newspapers on the same day as this tragedy is a deeply regrettable coincidence. We apologize to those who were offended.”
