Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, and crazy hats: it's hard to top that. The British milliner Philip Treacy made his return to the runway on Sunday night, the first time he has shown in 13 years. And it sounded like quite the night: Lady Gaga served as a master of ceremonies, appearing on the runway in a pink veil to announce that Treacy was "the greatest milliner of all time."
Then came a series of models wearing items from Michael Jackson's archive -- even the "Thriller" jacket -- and hats designed by Treacy. (It's the first time the items are going to be seen until they go up for auction in Los Angeles in December.) The crowd included the family of Isabella Blow, Alexander McQueen's late muse, and Sarah Burton.
And the hats were indeed wild: The Guardian described the show as: "fashion's most glamorous Halloween party." Head pieces included what Cathy Horyn called a "huge smiley-face saucer; straw creations that licked around the models' shoulders and heads like hostile blossoms; punk-style feathers; a white-frosted sailing shit; jewel-colored helmets; and a spinning wheel of a hat blazing with miniature lights." It's only a matter of time until one winds up on Princess Beatrice.
