Could London’s phone-hack scandal claim a CNN host? Piers Morgan has steadfastly denied any involvement with phone hacking from his current perch, but he was less clear on the matter in a recently dug-up 2009 interview on the BBC. Asked how he felt about “down-in-the-gutter” tabloid tactics, a reference to the use of private investigators, Morgan said that though such tactics were rare, that wasn't a defense, “because obviously you were running the results of their work.” Morgan has since said that he was speaking generally and not about his own experience editing the Daily Mirror or News of the World. “I have never hacked a phone, told anyone to hack a phone, nor to my knowledge published any story obtained from the hacking of a phone,” Morgan told The Daily Beast.
