Pilot Killed in Supersonic Jet Crash at Texas Air Force Base

One Air Force pilot has been killed and another injured after supersonic jet crashed Tuesday night at Laughlin Air Force Base in southern Texas. The condition of the injured pilot was not specified by officials, and the identities of both fliers are being withheld until their families are notified. The base said a panel of officers will be convened to investigate the cause of the crash. The aircraft involved was a T-38C Talon. The Talon is a twin-engine, high-altitude jet used specifically for training and preparing pilots “for front-line fighter and bomber aircraft.” The base is located 150 miles west of San Antonio, near the city of Del Rio and the Mexican border.
