An active-duty U.S. Air Force Major has been arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence in the case of his missing wife—and police now say he’s a suspect. Andre McDonald was booked Sunday after allegedly tearing up a receipt showing the purchase of a shovel, ax, and gasoline, all items that investigators reportedly believe he used to dispose of the body of his wife, Andreen McDonald, according to the San Antonio Express-News. Andreen McDonald was reported missing Friday after friends said she never showed up to work. “We believe that Andreen McDonald is no longer living,” Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said Sunday. Andre McDonald, who was held Saturday for a mental health evaluation by the Air Force, was not officially considered a suspect until Sunday, after investigators found what Salazar described as some “really quite disturbing” things during a search of the family’s home. He also said the “most heartbreaking” aspect of the case is the involvement of the McDonalds’ child, a 6-year-old girl who “for all intents and purposes just lost two parents.” “To us, it’s pretty evident she saw something. She saw what happened to her mom.”
