Police have declared that an early morning explosion at a Muslim community center near Minneapolis was caused by a “destructive device,” and have turned over the investigation to federal law enforcement.
Authorities say the blast struck the Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington just after 5 a.m. Saturday, although no one was injured. Asad Zaman, the executive director of Muslim American Society of Minnesota, said the explosion occurred in the imam’s office during morning prayers. One member of the congregation saw a pickup truck speeding away after the blast, he said, and he believes an explosive device was thrown into a window. The Muslim-American Association of Minnesota is offering a $10,000 reward for any information that could help investigators.
