San Francisco police on Wednesday revived the 29-year-old search for Kevin Collins by publicly naming a suspect after finding skeletal remains in the person’s basement. Collins, 10, disappeared in February 1984 and became known as one of the first missing children to be featured on milk cartons. Police named the suspect as Wayne Jackson, who has gone by four different names and lived across the street from the Catholic grammar school Collins attended. Jackson has a history of sex crimes against children and died in 2008. Police had searched Jackson’s home at the time and found nothing, but a recent search by cadaver dogs and jackhammers found skeletal remains in his basement—although preliminary tests show they appear to belong to an animal.
