A new poll from The Wall Street Journal suggests that Donald Trump could be losing support from suburban women in swing states over his positions on abortion. According to the survey, 57 percent of suburban women in seven battleground states said the ex-president’s policies are too restrictive, while only 20 percent said President Joe Biden’s policies are not restrictive enough. Thirty-nine percent of the pool said abortion is the most important issue in deciding whom to vote for in November, and most of that subset think abortion should be legal at least most of the time. The Biden campaign has put abortion rights front and center while Trump has both bragged of getting Roe v. Wade overturned and criticized some extreme abortion restrictions. A spokesperson for Trump downplayed the importance of the poll results, telling the Journal that immigration and inflation—two issues where he outpolls Biden—will be the motivating factors at the ballot box.
