President Trump on Wednesday morning defended his eldest son after a day of chaotic news coverage over emails Donald Trump Jr. sent during the 2016 election that sought dirt on Hillary Clinton from Russia. “My son Donald did a good job last night,” Trump tweeted, referring to Trump Jr.’s appearance on Fox News’ Hannity. “He was open, transparent and innocent. This is the greatest Witch Hunt in political history. Sad!” Trump Jr. was contacted last year by Russian music publicist Rob Goldstone with documents that Goldstone claimed would “incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia.” Trump Jr. responded: “I love it.” The June 3, 2016, email went on to say: “This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.” On Sean Hannity’s show on Tuesday night, Trump Jr. defend his correspondence and said he would “in retrospect” probably “have done things a little differently.” In addition to praising his son’s performance, Trump reiterated his self-contradicting claim that source-based reporting from “Fake News media” should not be trusted.
