Weeks after getting into a car accident, Prince Philip, 97, has voluntarily surrendered his driver’s license. “After careful consideration The Duke of Edinburgh has taken the decision to voluntarily surrender his driving licence,” Buckingham Palace said in a Saturday statement.
The decision comes after Philip, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, was involved in an accident last month that caused his Land Rover to overturn, according to the Associated Press. “The male driver of the Land Rover was uninjured. The female driver of the Kia suffered cuts while the female passenger sustained an arm injury, both requiring hospital treatment,” the Norfolk police department said in a statement. After the incident, the prince wrote a letter apologizing to the injured woman.
