YOU'RE NOT SINGING ANYMORE

Celtic supporters couldn’t resist the temptation to sing anti-monarchy chants at William.

Prince William’s dedication to soccer is such that he sat through two hours of abusive chants about his brother Prince Harry, his wife Kate Middleton, his father the king and his late grandmother the queen Wednesday night, at a match between his team, Aston Villa, and the Scottish side Celtic, which traditionally has a strong Republican and anti-monarchy prejudice. The two sides do not usually encounter each other as Scotland and England run entirely different soccer leagues, but they met Wednesday as part of the European Champions League competition. According to a report in the Telegraph William was the focus of chants of “Lizzie’s in a box,” and “If you hate the Royal family, clap your hands.” Celtic supporters also hung a banner from the stands reading “Michael Fagan The Prowler,” referencing the 1982 Buckingham Palace intruder. Celtic fans are said to have mocked the death of the queen with a banner reading, “Sorry for your loss Michael Fagan.” William at least got the last laugh: Villa won 2-0.
