The day after armed militants killed United States Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other Americans at the consulate in Benghazi, Libyans in that city and the capital of Tripoli took to the streets. Their message: The violent extremists who carried out the attack don’t represent themselves, Islam, or the nation of Libya. Images of the protests, in which men and women carried signs in English denouncing the violence and supporting the Americans, were posted on the Facebook page of an online video stream called Libya Alhurra. Other images were posted on the Facebook page for the Supreme Security Committee Interim Tripoli, which oversees security in the capital.
