Rachel Dolezal, the former NAACP leader in Washington state who sparked widespread condemnation after she was outed as a white woman posing as black, has been charged with theft by welfare fraud, perjury, and false verification for public assistance, KHQ-TV reports. From August 2015 to November 2017, Dolezal, who legally changed her name to Nkechi Diallo in 2016, received $8,747 in food assistance and $100 in child-care assistance that authorities say was illegally obtained. Diallo is accused of reporting an income of below $500 a month when she was in fact earning a much larger amount, with nearly $84,000 deposited into her bank account over a period of about two years.
