The WannaCry ransomware virus has been discovered on an IP address corresponding with a U.S. Army research computer, making it the first known U.S. government device affected by the virus, CyberScoop reported. Earlier Monday, White House Homeland Security adviser Thomas Bossert claimed that "as of today, no federal systems are affected." But the IP address was observed communicating with the hackers' server on May 12, indicating that the computer was successfully infected with the ransomware last week. WannaCry, a virus that locks an infected computer until the owner agrees to pay a ransom to hackers, began infecting computers on May 12, quickly spreading to over 300,000 devices.
