It may be too hot for a picnic this weekend across much of the United States. The temperature in Phoenix broke a 10-year record yesterday when it reached 116 degrees, and it's expected to continue today. About 4,000 homes in the city were without power after a monsoon toppled power lines. The National Weather Service issued heat advisories in the San Francisco Bay area, where temperatures are expected to go as high as 105. Illinois and Missouri also have heat advisories. Ski resorts in California and Colorado are taking advantage of the sudden heat, opening for the weekend to allow swimsuit-clad skiers to play on what remains of the snowpack.
