Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) issued an apology on Twitter late Wednesday for appearing to threaten former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen ahead of his congressional testimony. “I’ve personally apologized to @MichaelCohen212 4 referencing his private family in the public square,” Gaetz tweeted. “Regardless of disagreements, family members should be off-limits from attacks from representatives, senators & presidents, including myself. Let’s leave the Cohen family alone.” His apology came just after the Florida Bar opened an investigation into whether he violated professional-conduct rules with a flurry of below-the-belt tweets that accused Cohen of infidelity. Gaetz has since deleted the posts. Cohen testified for hours in front of the House Oversight Committee Wednesday, alleging that Trump spoke with Roger Stone about WikiLeaks and directed him to pay off Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal.
