California Gov. Jerry Brown on Thursday appointed Rep. Xavier Becerra to be the state’s next attorney general. Becerra will replace Kamala Harris, who was just elected to the U.S. Senate. “Governor Brown has presented me with an opportunity I cannot refuse—to serve as Attorney General of my home state,” Becerra said in a statement. Brown has represented Los Angeles in the House of Representatives since 1993. He previously served in the California State Assembly and was deputy attorney general in the state from 1987 to 1990.
