Callista Gingrich, the wife of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, is reportedly President Donald Trump’s top choice to be the U.S. ambassador to the Vatican. According to CNN, the White House is hoping to announce the nomination before Trump meets with Pope Francis at the Vatican this month on his first foreign trip as president. An administration official said the White House is awaiting a review from the Office of Government Ethics. Gingrich is a devout Catholic and is credited with having led her husband, who ran for president in 2012, to Catholicism.
