A Customs and Border Patrol agent is under investigation after confronting a journalist over her sources. The Washington Post reports that Jeffrey A. Rambo contacted reporter Ali Watkins last year and the pair had dinner together, during which Rambo allegedly questioned her about her reporting tactics. Watkins, now a New York Times reporter, had been working for Politico at the time and had reportedly agreed to meet Rambo after he offered to be a “potential source for her reporting.” Then, at the dinner, he reportedly asked her about her romantic relationship with James Wolfe, a former Senate Intelligence Committee aide who was indicted last week for lying to the FBI about his conversations with reporters. The Justice Department has seized Watkins’ phone and email records as part of that probe. The New York Times announced late Tuesday that it is conducting a review of Watkins’ involvement in that case and that nature of her relationship with Wolfe.
