Top Trump fundraiser Elliott Broidy and his business partner George Nader tried to use their access to Trump to win lucrative contracts with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, according to an Associated Press investigation. The two men “pitched themselves to the crown princes as a backchannel to the White House,” the AP found, in order to push anti-Qatar policies within the Trump administration. Additionally, neither individual was registered as foreign agents. Broidy’s lawyer said the AP’s investigation “is based on fraudulent and fabricated documents obtained from entities with a known agenda to harm Mr. Broidy.” Broidy reportedly also wrote in a summary of one of his meetings with the president that he told Trump of his intentions to win contracts, and was passing messages to Trump from the princes.
