FCC: Hawaii Official Behind False Alarm a ‘Source of Concern’ for Over 10 Years

A Federal Communications Commission report investigating the 38-minute false alarm in Hawaii revealed that the official who pressed the wrong button had “been a source of concern” for over a decade. The report outlined that he or she had confused real alarms with drills “on at least two separate occasions.” The official has since been fired, and the head of the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency has resigned. This comes after the FCC revealed that the worker “believed it was an actual alert,” contradicting the previous explanations from Hawaii officials that the employee simply hit the wrong button.
