White House senior adviser Jared Kushner has reportedly become paranoid about his own colleagues in the West Wing after his security clearance was downgraded this week and his family’s business ties subjected to new scrutiny. A source cited by CNN late Wednesday said Kushner believes the publication of a Washington Post story about his contacts with foreign officials was intentionally timed to coincide with the news of his diminished security level in the White House. The report claims officials from China, Israel, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates discussed ways to manipulate him through his business ventures. Kushner suspects intelligence officials sat on the information for months and then leaked it to the press when he was already under scrutiny for lacking a permanent security clearance, the unnamed source told CNN. Kushner is said to be under the impression “everyone is out to get him,” including his colleagues. He has reportedly privately vented frustrations with the decision of White House Chief of Staff John Kelly to overhaul the security-clearance process, at times asking others, “Why is Kelly doing this?”
