Report: Manchester Bomber Was Rescued From Libya by British Navy in 2014

The man who killed 22 people in an attack in Manchester, England, at the end of an Ariana Grande concert in May 2017 was rescued from the civil war in Libya three years earlier by the British navy, the Daily Mail reports. Salman Abedi, a British citizen born to Libyan parents, is believed to have been on holiday in Libya in August 2014 when fighting broke out and British officials offered to evacuate U.K. citizens stranded there. Abedi and his younger brother Hashem were reportedly among 100 British citizens rescued from the coast of Libya and taken on the HMS Enterprise to Malta for a flight home to Britain in August 2014. Seven children, the youngest aged just 8, were among the 22 killed in the Manchester attack—hundreds were injured. “For this man to have committed such an atrocity on U.K. soil after we rescued him from Libya was an act of utter betrayal,” the newspaper quoted an unnamed British government official as saying.
