Rebekah Mercer, a major donor to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, reportedly asked Cambridge Analytica CEO Alexander Nix in August 2016 whether the company could help organize Hillary Clinton-related emails being released by WikiLeaks. According to a Wall Street Journal report, on August 26, Mercer passed along an email to Nix from a person she had met at an event for Sen. Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign suggesting that someone should help make the WikiLeaks' emails more searchable. This came after The Daily Beast revealed that Nix had reached out to Julian Assange to ask him to share the emails so that the company could help disseminate them, a request that Assange turned down.
