South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has accepted President-elect Donald Trump’s offer to be his U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, NBC News confirmed Wednesday morning. Although Haley has little diplomatic or foreign-policy experience, a Post and Courier report notes that Trump is probably relying on her communication and problem-solving skills to be the U.S. representative to the 193-member body. Haley, who would succeed Samantha Power, will need approval from the U.S. Senate. Haley, the daughter of Indian immigrants, was critical of Trump’s proposed Muslim ban during his campaign, and may be seen as a candidate to balance him out during his term.
