A National Rifle Association lawyer reportedly expressed concerns about the gun-rights group’s ties to Russia. According to McClatchy News, Cleta Mitchell was worried about “possible involvement in channeling Russian money into the 2016 elections to help Donald Trump.” Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee are seeking to interview her. Mitchell said the suggestion was a “complete fabrication.” The FBI was reportedly investigating whether Alexander Torshin, a Russian citizen and NRA member, tried to fund the group and aid its support of President Donald Trump.
