Poisoned former Russian spy Sergei Skripal will be given a new identity to begin a new life in America, according to the Sunday Times. British officials say the offer also extends to Skripal’s daughter, Yulia, who is recovering with him in a UK hospital following a March 4 poisoning widely believed to have been carried out by Russia. A senior British official cited by the Sunday Times says MI6 has held discussions with the CIA on possibly resettling the Skripals in the U.S. to protect them from any further murder attempts. “The obvious place to resettle them is in America, because they’re less likely to be killed there and it’s easier to protect them there under a new identity,” an intelligence source was quoted as saying. Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are also reportedly under consideration. The news of a possible relocation comes as the Skripals are said to be rapidly recovering after being found slumped over on a bench in Salisbury last month in a nerve agent attack UK authorities have traced back to Russia.
