Report: South Carolina AG Attempted to Boot Special Prosecutor Off Corruption Case

Recently published emails show that South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson tried to delay a special prosecutor's probe into Statehouse corruption, The Post and Courier reported on Monday. Emails between Wilson and political consultant Richard Quinn show the two collaborating on a October 2014 letter to pull special prosecutor David Pascoe off the case. At the time, Pascoe was prepared to look into a State Law Enforcement Division report, which identified Quinn and his son, state Rep. Rick Quinn, as potential targets of the investigation. The probe stalled for about a year after Wilson stepped in. The attorney general said he was only reaching out to his longtime advisor for advice on the letter's tone and to make sure it was grammatically correct. He said he never sent the letter and opted to call Pascoe instead.
