Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray were among the top Justice Department officials who appealed directly to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly on Monday, advising him against approving the release of a controversial memo crafted by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), The Washington Post reported. The memo allegedly outlines surveillance abuses on the part of the FBI, and Republicans on the House intelligence committee voted on Monday to make it public. According to the Post, Rosenstein argued that the Justice Department “was not convinced the memo accurately describes its investigative practices.” Kelly reportedly told Rosenstein and Wray that Trump still wanted to release the memo but that a White House review process would be set into motion before any official release.
