President Donald Trump reportedly asked his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, to reverse his decision to recuse himself from federal investigations into Russian election interference. According to The New York Times, Trump “berated” Sessions but the attorney general ultimately “refused.” The Times reports that special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigators are looking into the encounter as part of their probe into whether the president obstructed justice by attempting to hamper the Russia investigation. Trump has said repeatedly in public that Sessions should not have recused himself, and at one point he said he would not have hired Sessions if he had known Sessions would recuse himself.
