The White House is reportedly considering Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke for a position with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Politico reported on Friday. The controversial sheriff, best known for his inflammatory rhetoric and frequent appearances on Fox News, is reportedly in line for a gig as assistant secretary at the department’s Office of Partnership and Engagement—a position that does not require Senate confirmation. Clarke, who is an avid supporter of President Trump, has come under controversy for his jail’s handling of inmate deaths, including one particular incident in which, prosecutors allege, Terrill Thomas died of dehydration in solitary confinement several days after jail staff shut off his access to water.
