Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team has reportedly questioned real estate investor Tom Barrack, one of President Trump’s closest friends, as part of the ongoing Russia investigation. One source cited by the Associated Press said the interview focused on Trump’s former chairman, Paul Manafort, and campaign aide Rick Gates, both of whom were indicted and agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy and false-statement charges. Another source said investigators had asked Barrack about financial dealings during the campaign, the transition, and Trump’s inauguration. Barrack, whose close ties to Trump go back decades, served as a top fundraiser for Trump’s 2016 campaign and later directed his inauguration.
