President Donald Trump is planning to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his trip to Europe next month, Bloomberg News reports, citing two sources familiar with the matter. The president is reportedly weighing whether to meet with Putin before the NATO summit in Brussels on July 11, or after his trip to Britain on July 13. According to White House National Security Council spokesman Garrett Marquis, National Security Adviser John Bolton will visit Moscow next week to discuss the possibility of a meeting. While U.S.-Russia relations have remained tense in recent months after Trump ordered airstrikes against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime and the U.S. imposed new sanctions on several Putin allies, Trump recently extended a hand to the Russian leader at the G7 summit in Quebec. The president called for Moscow to be readmitted to the Group of Eight countries and largely shrugged off the reason it was kicked out in the first place—the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
