Behind closed doors, President Donald Trump is still questioning the authenticity of former President Barack Obama’s birth certificate, according to a new report from The New York Times. In addition to throwing doubt on the legitimacy of the infamous Access Hollywood tape, Trump has also, in recent months, reportedly revived the birtherism conspiracy theory that aided his rise to political prominence. The story cites an unnamed U.S. senator who “listened as the president revived his doubts about Mr. Obama’s birth certificate.” Trump, he said, “has had a hard time letting go of his claim that Mr. Obama was not born in the United States.” In September of last year, then-candidate Trump held a press conference to declare that “President Barack Obama was born in the United States, period,” before inventing a new lie that Hillary Clinton had “started the birther controversy” during her 2008 primary run against Obama.
