The White House official credited with arranging President Trump’s historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is preparing to step down from his post as soon as the meeting is over, The Washington Post reports. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Joseph Hagin has been a driving force behind the summit, negotiating with North Korean officials behind the scenes to organize logistics for the June 12 meeting in Singapore. But several sources cited by the Post say he is eyeing a move to the CIA’s post of deputy director almost immediately after the summit. “Joe is ready to go,” one close associate was quoted as saying, describing the summit as Hagin’s “crowning achievement.” Hagin, a former deputy chief of staff to President George W. Bush, is said to have had a tense relationship with some of Trump’s friends and advisers who didn’t like Hagin’s protocols. He has reportedly not set a date yet for his departure.
